Ok so the depressing winter months have been getting us fragile Brits down a little lately, (even Madonna could only hack so much before she packed her bags and hopped back over to the sunshine of LA), but grimace no longer; the latest offering from Mn2s is guaranteed to brighten up the dreariest of winter mornings and will have you hopping and skipping all the way to work.
You should all remember the massive underground hit from the Demetrios Project, ‘Feel Alive’ from the summer of 2001. DJ support came from the likes of Tony Humphries, Doc Martin, Kenny Carpenter, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Mark Farina and Tedd Patterson, to name but a few.
This year the track is back by popular demand, retouched and revamped by the master of jazzy house, NYC’s Jon Cutler. Jon works his soulful magic over the original, keeping things stripped down and simple, drawing attention to his ever crisp production techniques and newly added bassline.
A1 is Jon’s Distant mix. Think old-skool, early 90’s, uplifting house. Cutler keeps the beautiful original vocal but rearranges them slightly, adding layered X-Press2-esque airy strings, jazzy rhodes, and a hypnotic, bumpy bassline. Set to be a floor-filler once again, in true New York body jackin’ style.
If the stripped-down dubby groove is more your thing, check A2, ‘Jon’s Distant dub’, using nice vocal snips, melodic rhodes keys, and that same bumpy b-line – perfect for the late night/afterhours soiree.
