You will have heard man of the moment Mark Knight unless, that is, you’ve been hibernating under a stone for the last couple of months. Mr Knight has been producing for over three years, however in the past few months he has propelled into rising star status with production work for the likes of Defected, Toolroom (his own label), Defected, Kidology, Ultra Vinyl, Hed Kandi, MN2S and Red Melon.
A hot favourite of Tong, Lottie, Lawler and Tom Stephan, Mark’s crisp production skills have gained him utmost respect, and have seen him remix Kylie Minogue’s ‘Can’t get you out of my head’ for Polydor amongst many others.
‘Non Stop Rock’ is Mark’s first outing for 1trax, however the third for the MN2S group. The track most definitely suits the slightly broader music policy of 1trax to a T, boasting big room house action without a whiff of cheese.
‘Non Stop Rock’ has a definite Morales feel to it – emotive piano chords over a dirty, rumbling bassline and tinkering keys lean it towards the more sophisticated end of the funky house spectrum. The bassline drops in all the right places and is sure to be a regular in Tong’s box. Check the ‘a’ side for the full version, complete with spoken vocals from south London reggae artist ‘Boof’. Boof was the original Jah Shakka sound system MC, and ex-label owner of Neagus Roots, featuring artists such as Junior Reed, Don Carlos & Horris Martin. He currently runs Delight Entertainment alongside Nikis & Nike, and adds a carnival feel to the track, roughing it up in a more than catchy way.
Check the ‘b’ side for the dub – a nice alternative… not to dissimilar from the A side, but less the vocals.
Altogether a classy house package from the new 1trax label. Sure to wet the palettes of the more discerning house DJ.
