The reigning Commonwealth light middleweight champion competes in the Welterweight division and is also a former Commonwealth Games gold medallist. All these accolades are unsurprising given the promise Jamie showed early on as an amateur boxing for the Walcot ABA club. At light welterweight he won the 2005 ABA Championships and his Commonwealth Gold came in 2006 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. In fact, the final proved to be a non-event as Jamie’s opponent pulled out, it is said that he knew he was the lesser talent and didn’t want to get hurt. A year later in 2007 Jamie turned pro.
After a break from the sport of over a year, Jamie came back at a more suitable weight which was less difficult for him to achieve before each fight and has since excelled, also taking on a new trainer, John Costello. It is said his mental state improved greatly in this time, which means Jamie is a great person to inspire and motivate young audiences everywhere.
