Steve Backley attends charity ball

Olympic medallist Steve Backley has attended a black tie charity ball in support of Marianne Rooprai, who was seriously injured in a car collision 8 years ago. She is now starting to regain some movement in her body.

Over 100 people attended the event at Sopwell House (St Albans) last weekend including Backley, who spoke about his experiences and praised Marianne for her courage.

“It always gives me such a boost to see so many people coming out to support us. I’m so grateful.

“And having an Olympian tell you how inspiring you are – well that’s pretty special too.” Said Marianne.

An auction raised £7,000 during the event, and with extra donations and sponsorship they are expected to have raised £10,000 for Rooprai Spinal Trust.
