When it comes to hip-hop, few people have impressed, influenced and introduced more to the genre than DJ Cash Money. Therefore it comes as little surprise that the acclaimed DJ Scratch has named his pioneering peer as one of his favourite DJs of all time. And that’s quite a recommendation.
DJ Cash Money who emerged out of Philadelphia’s acclaimed hip-hop scene during the eighties, has become one of the world’s most well-known, and respected, purveyors of deck-bouncing urban DJ beats.
Soon he grew out of the famous city, and was winning competitions all over the world, including the ‘New Music Seminar Battle’ and ‘American DMC’, to name a few. So inventive, original and unstoppable is DJ Cash Money, that following his DMC World DJ Championship triumph, he was banned from ever taking part again – in order to give other competitors a chance at the title.
Again highlighting a consistent excellence, DJ Cash Money was the first inductee into the Technics DJ Hall of Fame. All of this means just one thing: there is good; there is great; and there is DJ Cash Money.
With intoxicating creativity, DJ Cash Money would not be constrained by precedents. Leading the way for other DJs to open up and rethink just how they want to set a track free, he invented and perfected various scratches and effects, with resounding success.
During an interview recently published on sohh.com, DJ Scratch explained the reason DJ Cash Money made his Top 5: “Why? Because he’s DJ Cash Money. [He's] one of the most advanced deejays of our time.”
If you wanted a reference, then it is safe to assume that DJ Scratch’s opinion of DJ Cash Money, is as good as you’ll ever need.
