To describe a DJ as a legend, a pioneer or a father of a sound might sometimes be an over statement. That is unless you happen to be discussing, Spanish born DJ, Jose Padilla. After moving to Ibiza in the 70s, it was during the late 80s and early 90s that Jose built his reputation as a master selector of music, most notably at a certain sunset bar located at Sant Antoni de Portmany. The now world famous Café Del Mar became his base for most of the 1990s and it was here that he developed a unique sound track to complement the stunning sunset on offer from the its shore location in the bay of Caló des Moro in San Antonio.
Party goers from all over Europe found the perfect balance to their nights of excessive dancing by listening to the sets he created in the bar. Jose developed unique DJ sets that included music from Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, Pat Metheny and Penguin Cafe Orchestra often punctuated by songs by Elton John, Louis Armstrong or Dionne Warwick. And so the Balearic Chill Out sound was born. Although several of his own productions appeared on his various compilations, it was not until 1998 that he released his first artist album, Souvenir, and later his second album, Navigator, was released in 2001. Both of these projects involved extensive touring schedules and in the modern day, having signed to cult label International Feel Records, his DJ diary sees him play his unique DJ sound in bespoke venues worldwide.
