DJ Kayper

DJ Kayper Bio

Hailed as one of the finest DJs pioneering new music today, British-born DJ Kayper is a seminal force on the urban, mainstream and desi music scenes.

From teaching herself to DJ using tape decks at the age of seven, to breaking a record by becoming the first female to win the Vestax Juice DJ Competition in 2004, DJ Kayper’s stratospheric rise has consolidated her reputation as one of the most highly regarded DJs in the industry.

“People always say I need a gimmick – like I should wear a cat suit or something – but I know I don’t need to. I tell them to watch my videos on YouTube and they’ll see that I can really DJ,” Kayper told The Telegraph Magazine in a recent interview. This is not an exaggeration, her unequivocal skills have earned her residencies and headline shows at the world’s most renowned nightclubs, including London’s Ministry of Sound, Bar Rumba, Bungalow 8, The Box, New York City’s famed SOB’s, M2, The Knitting Factory, Joe’s Pub, LA hot spots Eden & Supper Club, Chicago’s Sub 51, Vegas’ Moon at the Palms Hotel and Chateau at The Paris Hotel. Currently Kayper holds the main residency at cult London club The Box.

Her self-titled radio show, The DJ Kayper Show on The BBC Asian Network is entering its fifth year, and has grown into one of the station’s biggest exports with a global listenership, boasting an impressive list of guests such as Drake, Nas, Will.I.Am, Common, Questlove, Damian Marley Lupe Fiasco, Nelly Furtado and Nicki Minaj to UK artists Estelle, Tinchy Stryder, and Jay Sean.

Kayper has played at The Cannes Film Festival, Coachella, Sundance Festival and SXSW in Austin to industry events in LA and Mumbai; her presence is in high demand increasing daily. With a recent TV commercial for Nike following past TV adverts that show her DJ-ing on the BBC along with guest DJ spots for Fader Magazine, DJ Kayper’s brand grows daily.

Kayper’s legendary club night Ebonics which spanned from 2003 to 2008, led her to spin alongside idol DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Cash Money, DJ Premier, Stone Love, Clinton Sparks, Killa Kela and The Scratch Perverts to name a few.

Kayper has collaborated with dubstep producer Engine Earz to create Gimme Some which has spread virally through the club scene in UK. The track is supported by Diplo, Mumdance, MJ Cole, Caspa, Trolley Snatcha, Flux Pavillion and is available to download exclusively at www.MadDecent.com.

Kayper’s sound is wide-open and varied, often playing all types of music from electro, dubstep and drum n’ bass to hip-hop and rock. Her limitless skills and artfully blended mash-ups, have earned her a cult following on the mainstream, dance and urban music scenes.
