Former Scottish Rugby international George “Doddie” Weir can speak with insight and intrigue as an after dinner speaker, guest host or sporting ambassador at a range of corporate and public functions. Born in 1970, Doddie began playing rugby at school before going on to study at agricultural college and gaining an HND in 1991. Incredibly, that was the same year that he went on to play for Scotland in the Rugby World Cup, helping his team – who were underdogs to succeed – to get all the way to the semi-finals.
Doddie, who plays in the forwards at lock, then went on to play in two more World Cups for Scotland, first in 1985, then again in 1999, and also played for the British Lions during their 1997 tour to South Africa. During this tour Doddie sustained a serious knee injury but managed to fight back from adversity to carry on playing until 2004. Doddie played a total of 61 times for Scotland having been first capped in 1990 against Argentina, and spent his domestic career with Newcastle Falcons.
Post rugby, Doddie has immersed himself in the business world and is now a Director for Hutchinson, a water waste management company. As well as this, he is a highly in demand speaker in the world of sport and entertains audiences with his tales from around the world.
