Ian Gelder is an actor from the United Kingdom. Mr Dekker in Torchwood: Children of Earth and Kevan Lannister in Game of Thrones are among his many stage and screen appearances. He has a long history in television, having appeared in shows like London’s Burning, Agatha Christie’s Poirot, and Chris Morris’s The Day Today and Brass Eye. Gelder played Rumpole’s son, a university lecturer, in the TV movie Rumpole of the Bailey. The Low Road (2013) is one of his stage credits. He played Marcus Andronicus, Titus’ brother, in Lucy Bailey’s revival of her original 2006 production of Titus Andronicus at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre from May to July 2014. After a three-year absence, Gelder returned to the HBO series Game of Thrones as Kevan Lannister in Seasons 5 and 6. Gelder appeared in 12 episodes of Game of Thrones as a guest star.
In 2019, he appeared as Librarian Scholar Charles in the BBC TV series His Dark Materials, which is based on Philip Pullman’s critically acclaimed book trilogy. Then, in 2020, he guest-starred as Zellin in Doctor Who’s “Can You Hear Me?” in the seventh episode of the twelfth season. Actor Ben Daniels is Gelder’s partner. They met in 1993 while working on a production of Entertaining Mr Sloane together. Gelder also performs voiceover work and is described as ‘the quintessential voice of luxury brands’ by his representatives at Excellent Talent.
