Chester born Ronald Pickup has been a leading actor since 1964. He has worked in both film and television and is suitable for a wide range of roles, presenting duties and appearances. He was born in 1940 and now has two children, one of whom, Rachel Pickup, is also an actor. The pair have starred in two productions together, namely Midsomer Murders episode “The Magician’s Nephew” in 2008 then again in 2016 in Schadenfreude. Ronald was educated in Chester at King’s School and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before then becoming an Associate Member of RADA. Ronald starred in big hit movie The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel as one of the leading characters, Norman Cousins, and then took the role up once more in the successful sequel, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. In other film work, Ronald starred in The Day of the Jackal in 1973 and other works like Ken Russell’s Mahler, plus The Thirty Nine Steps, Zulu Dawn and the role of Igor Stravinsky in Nijinsky in 1980 then Prince John in Ivanhoe, which also starred Roger Moore. He appeared in Bond movie Never Say Never Again, cult sci-fi show Doctor Who and was in the Chronicles of Narnia. Ronald has also been a fine stage star in shows with Laurence Olivier at the Royal National Theatre, most famously in Three Sisters and Long Day’s Journey into Night. A serial star of TV and film throughout his fine career, Ronald is a real and popular British star.
