The British Museum is entering into the world of non-fungible tokens by teaming up with a new platform to sell digital merchandise as NFTs.
The museum is partnering with a new NFT platform to launch digital postcards of the work of famed Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. The platform they’re working with, LaCollection, is aimed at digitising museum and installation collections for sale as NFTs, and hopes to inspire the next generation of art collectors by selling NFT collections in partnership with leading institutions.
Over 200 Hokusai NFTs will be made available for purchase through the marketplace, with some auctioned off and others sold at fixed prices. Craig Bendle of the British Museum spoke about the launch: ““The NFT space is new to many people so allowing them to enter the market in a simple and straightforward manner is very exciting.”
