George Morel is making waves

For most people, the dawning of a new year is a time for revelry and over-indulgence. This new year house music aficionados have had more to celebrate than most – not least the continued re-emergence of one of the scene’s most prolific and respected producers, George Morel.

The native New Yorker’s credentials are well known – a world-renowned DJ and producer who spent time as A&R chief of the seminal Strictly Rhythm imprint – so expectancy was always high when he announced his comeback in the autumn of 2010. Morel had previously stepped back from DJing and production to spend more time with his family.

True to form, Morel’s comeback hasn’t disappointed. Following a tentative few months he’s now thrown himself back into work in a big way, and singles, remixes and EPs are beginning to mount up – much to the delight of his many fans.

December 2010 saw the release of his remixes of ‘No Matter What’ by Genc Durant and Kurt Aytekin and, more excitingly, his first new single for sometime. ‘Lose My Head’, featuring vocalist Michael M, updates Morel’s tough, electronic house sound, bringing him closer to underground favourites like Locodice and Nick Curly.

As if that wasn’t enough to satisfy fans’ desires for new music, Morel released another new single in January. ‘I Said’ sees him delving further into electronic territory with impressive results.

2011 looks set to be a big year for the rejuvenated US house master.
