Wayne Bridge is a former footballer who earned 36 England caps and won the League cup, FA cup and Premier League in a playing career spanning 16 years. A formidable left back, he was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year 2001-02 and later in the Championship Team of the Year 2012-13 thanks to his consistent high quality throughout his years as a player. He played for the England national team from 2002 to 2009 and was selected for UEFA Euro 2004 and two FIFA World Cup competitions.
Born in Southampton, Bridge kicked off his professional career playing for his home town, signing as a trainee in 1996 and making an impressive 151 appearances for The Saints before moving to Chelsea. He is remembered best at Stamford Bridge for his Goal of the Season that helped Chelsea reach the semi-finals of the 2004 Champions League, and the following year he helped the Blues win the Premier League. After leaving Chelsea, Bridge enjoyed stints at Fulham, Manchester City, West Ham, Brighton, Sunderland and Reading before hanging up his boots in 2014.
Since retiring from the game, Bridge has enjoyed spending time with his family and also came off the pitch into a TV career, often appearing alongside his wife Frankie (who found fame with pop group The Saturdays). He was a popular contestant on the reality series I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here in 2016, and in 2018 he won a Sport Relief boxing bout with Spencer Matthews.
