Olympic gold medalist Miltiadis Tentoglou is an athlete from Greece who specializes in the long jump. Tentoglou is one of the most decorated long jumpers in history, having won Olympic gold, World Championship gold, and European Championship gold. He is also a two-time World University Games champion and a gold medalist at the World and European Indoor Championships. His accomplishments have made him a national hero in Greece and he is considered one of the nation’s greatest athletes of all time.
Tentoglou was born in Athens, Greece in 1996. He began competing in track and field at a young age and quickly showed promise in the long jump. He won his first international medal, a silver, at the 2014 World Junior Championships. The following year, Tentoglou made his senior debut at the European Championships, winning gold with a jump of 17.29 meters. He also won gold at the 2015 World University Games.
Tentoglou’s breakout year came in 2016. He won gold at the European Championships with a jump of 17.58 meters, setting a new championship record, before going on to win gold at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and becoming the first Greek athlete to win an Olympic medal in the long jump. Tentoglou continued to dominate in the event after his Olympic victory. He won gold at the 2017 World Championships and followed that up with another gold at the 2018 European Championships.
