Mark Chamberlain is part of one of the most prestigious footballing families around. He is theyounger brother of Neville Chamberlain, and he is the father of Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Notts County’s Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain.
However, Mark’s career included over 518 professional appearances and over 70 goals.He began his career with Port Vale in 1978, where he made 96 appearances and scoring 18 goals before moving on to Stoke City in 1982. In his final season with Port Vale he was named in the PFA Fourth Division Team of the Year. Following an excellent three years with the Potters he moved on to sign for Sheffield Wednesday. During his time with the Owls he made 66 appearances and scored eight goals.
In 1988 he signed for Portsmouth, where he spent the longest time of his playing career. Over his six year stay with Pompey he played 167 times and scored 20 goals. He played a crucial role in the club reaching the FA Cup semi-finals. However, he was sold in 1994 and he joined Brighton & Hove Albion. During his one season with the Seagulls he made 19 appearances and scored twice.Chamberlain then moved on to Exeter City, before finally moving for one final playing season with Fareham Town.
During that final season he was also appointed player-manager. Chamberlain also represented the England under-21s and made four appearances, before being called up to the seniorside and representing his country on eight occasions.
