Mexican musician Caloncho is a singer and songwriter who blends together the Mexican folk tradition with his own modern style.
As a child, Caloncho learnt to play the drums, and quickly discovered he had a love of music. He started to learn the guitar too, teaching himself covers as well as writing his own music from a young age. In 2011, Caloncho recorded his first EP, with help from his old friend and teacher Siddhartha. The EP was an instant success and he quickly began developing his style further, using unusual materials such as seeds, water and fruit for his second EP, Fruta, released in 2013. The unique and highly original release saw him nominated in both the New Artist category and the Alternative Music Album category at the 2014 Latin Grammy Awards, establishing his reputation as one to watch on the international music scene. His career has continued to go from strength to strength, with Fruta Volume 2 coming out two years later in 2015 and Balsamo quickly following in 2017.
Caloncho’s career shows no signs of slowing down, and he has released a steady stream of singles and EPs over the last few years. His most recent release includes three singles, including hit single Adolescentes which has over 2 million views on YouTube. Caloncho continues to tour and appear at live shows across South America, with upcoming records and concerts in the pipeline.
