William Hope is an incredibly gifted and versatile actor and voice actor who has built a distinguished career in film, theatre, and animation. He got his first break as Lieutenant Gorman in the classic James Cameron film Aliens, and has gone on to play in a wide variety of films and biopics, from Sherlock Holmes to Hellbound: Hellraiser II to The Whisteblower. Young audiences on both sides of the Atlantic will have heard him as the voice of several character in both the UK and US versions of Thomas and Friends, the modern-day version of the classic Thomas the Tank Engine children’s books.
Hope was born in Canada but studied acting in London at the prestigious Royal Academy for the Dramatic Arts (RADA) and has been a familiar face in the British and American acting worlds ever since. He has appeared in countless radio plays and also appeared on the stage in London’s world-famous West End. His cinematic break came in the mid-1980s when he had to choose between starring parts in two films: Full Metal Jacket and Aliens. He chose the latter. He was vindicated when the film was cited as one of the best of the year and was nominated for several awards. 35 years later, it is still recognised as one of the greatest films ever made.
More recently, Hope has had a recurring role in Fox’s UK espionage thriller series Deep State and American war film The Catcher Was a Spy. Over the years, he has provided voices for numerous computer games, including the award-winning likes of Resident Evil 3 and Driver: San Francisco.
