Scottish PFA and Arsenal Player of the Year – Charlie Nicholas is a legend of the beautiful game and is recognised across the UK for his illustrious career. The star won the Scottish Premier Division and Scottish League Cup twice and also won the Football League Cup with the mighty Arsenal. Individually, Nicholas won a plethora of awards, such as third place in the European Golden Shoe and the Scottish Premier Division Golden Boot on two separate occasions. He won 20 international caps for his home nation Scotland, and played at the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
Nicholas began his blossoming career at Celtic. By the young age of 21, he was considered to be the most exciting talent in British football. This label attracted the interest of top clubs in the English top flight, with the talent eventually joining Arsenal. He spent over four successful years at the club, and scored both their goals in the famous League Cup Final win over Liverpool in 1987. Nicholas eventually moved back to Scotland to join Aberdeen. He won two Cup Finals in his time there, before re-joining Celtic where he spent another fantastic five seasons with the club he holds dearest to his heart.
After his playing career, Nicholas has enjoyed many years as a pundit on the Sky Sports News programme Soccer Saturday and Sky Sports’ coverage of Scottish football. Featuring for many years on the famous Soccer Saturday programme has made him a TV legend, as well as a footballing one. Nicholas’ bubbly on screen personality and humorous character has kept him in high demand well beyond his playing days.
