Dave Angel’s is a true pillar of the underground dance music community and he has been for many years. Amongst his long list of key achievements was hosting one of the most definitive and taste-making radio shows of the 1980s on pirate radio outlet Phaze One (which he did with Fabio and Grooverider). This show found Dave pushing a new musical style that slowly but surely grabbed the attention of the young people of the country and in turn shot Dave himself into the spotlight: the media were keen to announce Dave as a key influencer in the UK techno and acid scene and Dave obliged.
Taking many cues and reference points from a famous Detroit techno template, Dave has released a wealth of EPs, remixes and singles on some of the most important labels of the times, including the likes of OuterRythum, Polydor/Love, React Records, Fnac, Island, Outrage and the R+S imprint. In terms of remixing, Dave has tackled Sun Electric, Carl Cox, Orbital, Spooky, Roni Size, James and Underworld and has also put goetehr his own label, Rotation Records, which afford Dave the luxury of making and relaxing some of his own most exquisite music. The label also put out stuff by The Advent, Adam Beyer, Jamie Anderson, Steve Rachmad and Misstress Barbara among many others. _More recently, Dave was back on Bedrock Records in 2014 with the highly regarded triple header ‘Voodoo EP’, which went on to score a Beatport Top 20. FHe has also released on Anjunadeep (“Quartz”, alongside Dusky), Christian Smith’s Tronic Music and Crosstown Rebels as well as Los Angeles based boutique label Halocyan Records. Dave Angel remains one of the electronic community’s true characters, whose industrious approach to his craft gives off an aura of positivity like no other, a kind of warmth that you cannot fail to feel through his exceptionally, uplifting music.
