Avant is an American singer-songwriter and actor best known for his Platinum-certified debut album, My Thoughts, and his chart-topping discography.
Born in Ohio, Myron Avant, better known by his stage name, Avant, began writing music at the tender age of fourteen. Inspired by classic R&B artists, including The Supremes and Marvin Gaye, Avant developed a passion for music and drama, later studying at Cleveland School of the Arts.
In 1997, Avant drew attention from the independent release of his debut single, Separated. He soon landed a deal with Magic Johnson Music, and the rest was history. Avant released My Thoughts, his debut album, in 2000, selling over four million copies worldwide and debuting at forty-five on the US Billboard 200. He quickly followed up with Ecstasy in 2002, which featured Makin’ Good Love, one of his most popular hits to date. Avant boasts an impressive discography, totalling nine albums, including Private Room, Director, the self-titled Avant, The Letter, Face The Music, The VIII and, most recently, 2020’s Can We Fall In Love. Over his three-decade-spanning career, Avant’s music has charted countless times, including Read Your Mind, and When It Hurts.
In 2001, Avant was honoured with a nomination for Best R&B/Soul Single at the Soul Train Music Awards for Separated and was again recognised in 2007 for his single 4 Minutes. On YouTube, Avant has amassed an impressive viewership of over two-hundred million, boasts over three million followers on social media and just shy of one million monthly listeners on Spotify.
