Born Julia Denise Lee on February 24, 2002, in Tondo, Manila, Denise Julia showed an early aptitude for the performing arts. Before focusing on music, she engaged in stage acting and public speaking competitions during her childhood. She pursued her academic interests as a diplomacy and international relations student at the Ateneo de Manila University, where she was also an active member of the Ateneo Musicians’ Pool. Her journey into music began more formally in 2020 after an appearance in the music video for “Marikit” by Juan Caoile and Kyle Caplis, which inspired her to write her own songs. In August 2021, she released her debut single, “Difficult,” marking the official start of her recording career.
Denise Julia gained significant traction with the release of her song “Nvmd” in February 2022, which quickly went viral on TikTok. Her music, characterized by R&B and soulful elements, resonated with a broad audience. She subsequently released several singles and two extended plays (EPs), titled “Sweet Nothings Chapter 1” and “Sweet Nothings Chapter 2.” Her work often explores themes of relationships and self-discovery, earning her the moniker “Patron Saint of Situationship” from her fans. In addition to her musical endeavors, Julia is recognized for her advocacy for morena skin representation, promoting self-acceptance and diverse beauty standards within the industry.
Throughout her career, Denise Julia has consistently focused on her artistic development. In 2023, she released her debut mini-album “Sweet Nothings (Chapter 1),” followed by “Sweet Nothings (Chapter 2)” in November 2024. She was honored as “Artist of the Month” by Republic Asia’s RA Spotlight in March 2024, a platform dedicated to emerging young artists. December 2024 marked a significant milestone with her first solo concert, “Sweet Nothings: The Denise Julia Experience,” held at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City. The sold-out event solidified her position as a leading figure in the new wave of Filipino R&B, showcasing her growth as a performer and songwriter.
