Duran Duran achieved global success with their 1982 album ‘Rio,’ which featured international hits such as ‘Hungry Like the Wolf’ and the title track, accompanied by cinematic music videos that became MTV staples. Formed in 1978 by keyboardist Nick Rhodes and bassist John Taylor, the band’s classic lineup solidified in May 1980 with the addition of singer Simon Le Bon, guitarist Andy Taylor, and drummer Roger Taylor. Their innovative approach to integrating music videos into their artistic output began with their self-titled debut album in 1981, which included ‘Girls on Film.’ Their visual pioneering was recognized early with Grammy Awards for Long Form and Short Form music videos in 1984. The band’s influence continued to grow with their third album, ‘Seven and the Ragged Tiger’ (1983), which became a UK number one album.
Their enduring legacy was cemented with an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, the same year they performed at the Platinum Party at the Palace and headlined the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony. In 2023, they released ‘Danse Macabre.’ Throughout their career, Duran Duran has sold over 100 million records, achieved 30 top 40 singles in the UK and 21 top 40 singles in the US, and notably sustained top five albums across five consecutive decades in the UK.
