Sarah Faith Griffiths, known as Griff, was born on January 21, 2001, in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, England. Raised by parents who fostered children, her experiences influenced her songwriting, notably in her single “Good Stuff.” Griff’s early exposure to music included an iPod Shuffle with Taylor Swift’s album “Fearless” (2008). She developed her musical skills by teaching herself to record and produce music on her brother’s laptop using YouTube tutorials. During her time at St Clement Danes School, she pursued her musical interests privately. After her A-Levels, she informed her teachers she was taking a gap year, rather than disclosing her developing music career. She adopted the stage name Griff, articulating that “Sarah Griffiths isn’t that glamorous, I sound like I have a mortgage and 4 kids, it’s very corporate.” She identifies as an evangelical Christian, stating her faith is personal and deeply held.

Griff’s career began in 2019 when she signed with Warner Records, releasing her debut single “Mirror Talk” on July 4, 2019. The song was featured on BBC Radio 1’s “New Name” playlist by Annie Mac. Later that year, she released additional singles, “Didn’t Break It Enough” and “Paradise,” followed by her debut extended play, “The Mirror Talk,” on November 15, 2019. In 2020, her song “Good Stuff” was released, which she clarified was about missing fostered children rather than a romantic breakup. She also co-wrote “I Love You’s” for Hailee Steinfeld in March 2020. Her single “Black Hole,” released in January 2021, was described by NME as a “dark pop anthem.” On March 19, 2021, Griff won the Brit Award for Rising Star, performing “Black Hole” at the ceremony.

Following her Brit Award win, Griff released her debut mixtape, “One Foot in Front of the Other,” on June 18, 2021, which achieved both commercial success and critical acclaim. She subsequently embarked on tours across the United Kingdom, Europe, and North America. In November 2021, Dua Lipa announced Griff as a supporting act for the European dates of her Future Nostalgia Tour in 2022. She also supported Ed Sheeran on eight dates of his +–=÷× Tour in September 2022 and Coldplay on several European dates of their Music of the Spheres World Tour in 2023. In August 2023, she released the single “Vertigo,” which was promoted by Taylor Swift on Instagram. She later joined Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” as an opener in London on June 22, 2024. Griff released her debut studio album, “Vertigo,” on July 12, 2024, which peaked at number three on the UK Albums Chart. She plans to tour again in 2024 and 2025, supporting artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Gracie Abrams.
