Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, who goes by the stage name Iyanya, is one of the most promising and influential musicians in Nigeria, known for his versatile R&B and Afrobeat abilities. He began his musical journey as a rapper by the name of Lofty, and while developing his vocal range and abilities performing at local bars. His inspiration to pursue music came after watching the celebrity lifestyle of 2 Face Idibia and Olu Maintain.
Iyanya caught his big break in 2008 after winning first place on the first season of Project Fame West Africa and has remained prominent in the music and entertainment industry ever since. After winning the show, he released his debut album My Story in 2010, which showcased his versatility as a R&B artist. His hit single Kukere off My Story popularized the Etighi dance, a dance that originated in Calabar, and made him a global figure and household name, particularly in Nigeria, Ghana and the United Kingdom.
Iyanya is the cofounder of Made Men Music Group (MMMG) record label with Ubi Franklin. Throughout the years he’s been nominated for many awards, taking home the 2013 Artist of the Year award at The Headies Awards and the Best Male Vocal and Best Dance in a Video awards at the 2014 African Muzik Magazine Awards, to name a few.
