Josh Abbott Band, originating from Lubbock, Texas, embodies the soul of Red Dirt and Texas country music. Founded in 2006 by Josh Abbott during his tenure at Texas Tech University, the band’s early days were marked by the camaraderie of Abbott and his fraternity brothers Austin Davis, Neel Huey, and Andrew Hurt. The group quickly expanded to include talents like banjo player Austin David and percussionist Edward Villanueva, solidifying their distinctive sound.
In 2008, they burst onto the scene with their debut album “Scapegoat”, setting the stage for a series of critically acclaimed releases. Their sophomore effort, “She’s Like Texas” (2010), garnered widespread acclaim and saw the band’s first major success on the Top Country Albums chart. The album’s single “Oh, Tonight”, featuring Kacey Musgraves, achieved Gold status and highlighted Abbott’s evolving songwriting prowess.
The band continued their ascent with albums like “Small Town Family Dream” (2012), which debuted impressively at #5 on the Top Country Albums chart. Their ambitious concept album “Front Row Seat” (2015) showcased their storytelling ability, exploring themes of love and loss with poignant lyrics and memorable melodies.
The band maintained a rigorous touring schedule across Texas and the United States. In 2022, they regrouped to record their 7th studio album, “Somewhere Down The Road”, which hit shelves on January 26th, 2024. Throughout that year, they embarked on an extensive tour to promote the album, culminating in their inaugural performance at the Stagecoach Festival. As they continue to tour and captivate audiences, Josh Abbott Band remains a cornerstone of contemporary Texas country music.
