From Memphis to Los Angeles, singer-songwriter Jozzy’s career has seen her rack up the Grammy nominations and the million-streamers. She has written with and for the likes of Timbaland, Missy Elliott, Beyonce, Pitbull, Coldplay, Usher, The Weeknd, Rihanna, and a host of others. Since 2019, she has also carved out an increasingly successful career as a solo artist, with singles such as ‘I’m Gone’, ’10 Missed Calls’, and ‘Pleasantville’ all passing that seven-figure mark on Spotify. She is also increasingly a renowned activist, working as an LGBTQ+ woman of colour to speak out on and raise visibility of issues close to her heart.
Jocelyn “Jozzy” Donald grew up in the 1990s and 2000s on a diet of the classic R&B music of that era. In 2010, her rep as a talented writer growing, Timbaland sought her out and brought her to Miami to work on some tracks. It wasn’t an opportunity she was going to pass on, so she packed her bags and headed south-east. Soon, she was working with heroes like Missy Elliott and providing the tunes for all kinds of famous acts. She worked on Nicky Jam’s ‘Live It Up’, which became the official song of the 2018 World Cup and a chart hit all over Europe.
In the States, Jozzy’s biggest industry recognition to date has arguably been her 2020 Grammy nomination for Lil Nas X’s much-talked-about country-trap single ‘Old Town Road’. She co-wrote the track, which was nominated for Record of the Year and won the awards for Best Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video. In 2019, she signed with Diddy’s Love label (she is co-managed by Roc Nation) and began releasing her own music on her own terms.
