Macy Gray–born Natalie McIntyre in Ohio–is one of the most iconic r&b, soul and jazz singers of her generation. The American artist is a singer, actress, producer, musician and songwriter who has an immediately recognisable voice with distinctive raspy qualities. In her long career she has put out six studio albums and has picked up five Grammy nominations, winning one. She has also appeared on the silver screen a number of times, starring in films such as Training Day, Spider-Man, Scary Movie 3, Lackawanna Blues, For Coloured Girls and Idewild, and has worked with major labels like Atlantic, Geffen and Concord.
Some of Macy’s biggest hits include the likes of ‘I Try’, and as recently as 2016 she has served up another essential album in the form of Stripped. It picked up widespread critical acclaim and debuted at #3 on the Billboard Jazz Chart. Other albums such as The Sellout, Covered, Talking Book, and The Way have all cemented her reputation as one of the finest voices of her generation. Outside of music, Gray has appeared on hit US shows such as series nine of Dancing With The Stars and was the voice for Seeiah Owens in the video game SSX Tricky. She has also appeared in the eighth season of Bravo’s Celebrity Poker Showdown and collaborated with the likes of Kaz James, has sung on Galactic’s Into the Deep and has performed a version of Michael Jackson’s Rock With You for a special West End version of Thriller.
