Paul Williams is an American composer, singer, songwriter and actor who is widely celebrated for writing and co-writing many popular songs for several notable artists, including David Bowie, the Scissor Sisters and The Carpenters. Notable songs include Old Fashioned Love Song, Out in the Country, You and Me Against the World, Fill Your Heart, We’ve Only Just Begun, amongst an impressive list of others.
Williams is acknowledged as a great contributor to many acclaimed films, including The Muppet Movie, the Oscar nominated Rainbow Connection, The Secret of NIMH and A Star Is Born, which won a Grammy as well as an Academy Award, and the leading single ‘Evergreen’ reached No 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. As well as composing and writing music for an impressive list of productions; Williams has enjoyed a successful acting career, appearing in many films such as Smokey and the Bandit, Phantom of the Paradise and Battle for the Planet of the Apes.
Other film and television credits include It Takes Two, The Odd Couple, Hawaii Five-O, Fantasy Island, Star Trek: Voyager and many others. Williams was also a regular performer on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Williams is the president and chairman of ASCAP, the American song writing society, which is a position that he has held since 2009.
