Sodagreen, the Taiwanese indie band formed in 2001, has carved an indelible mark on the Mandopop scene with their unique blend of indie pop and rock influences. Consisting of Wu Tsing-Fong (Greeny), Shie Shin-Yi (Claire), Liou Jia-Kai (Kay), Shih Jyun-Wei (Wei), Ho Jing-Yang (A Fu), and Gong Yu-Chi (A Gong), the band’s lineup has remained unchanged since 2003, fostering a tight-knit musical synergy.
Their breakthrough came in 2004 when they clinched the Grand Jury Award at the Hohaiyan Gongliau Rock Festival, propelling them into the spotlight of the Taiwanese indie music scene. This accolade led to a contract with Willlin Music and marked the beginning of their meteoric rise.
In a historic moment for indie bands, Sodagreen became the first to grace the stage of Taipei Arena, solidifying their status as trailblazers. The band’s artistic evolution is evident in their discography, which includes standout albums like “Sodagreen” (2005), “Autumn: Stories” (2013), “Winter Endless” (2015), and “Strange Pool” (2021).
Their music transcends language barriers, earning them recognition beyond Taiwan. Awards, including Best Mandarin Album and Best Band, affirm their musical prowess. Despite a three-year hiatus, their return in 2020, under the moniker 魚丁糸 (Oaeen), demonstrated their enduring relevance and adaptability.
The band’s legacy extends beyond their original name. A legal dispute led to a temporary rebranding, yet their essence remained intact. With a trademark reclaimed and a triumphant return to their roots, Sodagreen continues to enchant audiences with their soul-stirring melodies and thought-provoking lyrics.
