Maurice Samuel Young, better known under the stage name Trick Daddy, is an American rapper, producer and hip-hop artist. Over the course of a 20-year career, this mainstay of the hip-hop scene has collaborated with talents across the board, including 2Pac, DJ Khaled, T-Pain, Rick Ross, Trina, Lil Jon and Ludacris.
Trick Daddy’s debut album, Based on a True Story, was released in 1997, but it was his second effort that gained real exposure and earned a Gold certification from the RIAA, producing the national hit single “Nann”. That track, featuring fellow Miami rapper Trina, peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Tracks chart and launched Trick Daddy’s career, leading to a major-label signing from Atlantic Records.
The following years saw a series of highly successful albums, with 2001’s Thugs Are Us achieving Platinum status and hitting No. 2 on the US R&B chart. Further acclaim was found with 2004’s Thug Matrimony, a Gold-certified smash that secured the top spot on both the R&B and Rap charts. Trick Daddy’s singles have sold millions worldwide, and he has made show-stealing appearances as a guest artist on tracks from Lil Jon, Ja Rule, DJ Khaled, Young Jeezy and the Ying Yang Twins. 56
