Zaw Win Htut, affectionately known as Nyi Htut, is a cornerstone of Burmese hard rock, revered as the founder and frontman of the legendary band Emperor. Born into a musical dynasty in Yangon, Myanmar, Zaw Win Htut’s journey into the realm of music began as a drummer with the band Oasis. In the pulsating 1980s music scene, he forged his own path, assembling Emperor with a cadre of talented musicians, including his brother and lead guitarist, Zaw Myo Htut, and others.
Initially honing his craft as a country and rock and roll singer, Zaw Win Htut embarked on a solo career, releasing albums like “Mercury Night,” “New Road,” “Comet,” and “Power of Love.” However, it was his monumental success with “The Bests of Zaw Win Htut” in 1989 that propelled him into the stratosphere of rock stardom.
Beyond his musical prowess, Zaw Win Htut is a patron of the arts, nurturing a fervent passion for painting. His dream of surrounding himself with a gallery of exquisite artworks reflects his profound appreciation for creativity and expression.
In addition to his artistic endeavors, Zaw Win Htut is a devoted family man, sharing his life with his wife, May Khaing Ohn, and their children, including son Ito (Win Htut Thawdar) and daughter Chan Chan (Win Htut Tara).
