Inspiring Aaron Calder is healing his life through veganism. A recovering alcohol addict who was hospitalised with cirrhosis of the liver, he has helped his body heal by adopting a vegan diet. Whilst doing this, he set up an Instagram page to share the kind of food he was eating and the recipes he was cooking. The page became a success, and Calder now has over 13,800 followers on the platform, as well as thousands more across Twitter and Instagram. He is also helping other alcohol addicts through Aaron’s Alcohol and Addiction Support, a one-to-one mentoring service.
Calder was a vegetarian from childhood, but when his drinking landed him in hospital, suffering liver disease, he went vegan as a way to help repair some of the damage he’d done to his body. He began seeing positive effects, and so was encouraged to continue, creating a positive feedback loop and breaking his cycle of alcohol addiction.
Calder has been sober and vegan for more than a decade now. Based in Brighton, UK, he works for a charity, offers mentoring services, and remains active on social media, promoting a vegan lifestyle and all of its positive benefits. He firmly believes that making conscious choices about one area of your life can help you to become more conscious in other areas as well.
