Adam Ondra is a Czech professional rock climber, who specialises in bouldering and lead climbing. In 2013 he was described as the leading climber of his generation amd a prodigy, an unquestionably huge inspiration for climbers and non-climbers alike. Ondra has an analogous record in the World Cup, after the only male athlete to win the World Cup series in both bouldering (2010) and lead climbing (2009, 2015, and 2019). Outstandingly, in 2014 he was also the only male athlete to win World Championship titles in the two areas, demonstrating his versatile and adaptable talent.
Ondra began climbing at just six years old and by 13 he was climbing his first route graded 9a. By 2011, Rock and Ice magazine stated that Ondra was “onsighting 5.14c’s by the handful”. By 2013 they recalled he had “more or less repeated every hard route in the world, with ease”.
Ondra has only continued to reach new peaks of his career and as of 2018, he’d climbed 1550 routes between grades 8a and 9c,which indesputibly upheld his leading climber accolade.
Ondra is renowned for being the the first climber to i) have redpointed a route with a proposed grade of 9b+, ii) to flash a 9a+ route, the only climber to have redpointed a route with a proposed grade of 9c , and the second to onsight a 9a.Recognised across the globe for his courageous drive and insatiable ambition, Ondra will stop at nothing to maintain his title. Esteemed publication The Economist noted that Ondra is “regarded as possibly the best climber to ever fondle rock”.
