Alex Moffat is an accomplished American actor and comedian recognized for his work on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Moffat graduated from North Shore Country Day School in 2000 and earned his degree from Denison University in 2004. He began his comedy career in Chicago, performing at notable venues such as The Second City, ImprovOlympic, Annoyance Theatre, and Zanies Comedy Club.
In 2015, Moffat co-starred in the indie drama Uncle John, which marked his entry into film acting. His breakthrough came in 2016 when he joined Saturday Night Live as a featured player, alongside Mikey Day and Melissa Villaseñor. He made his debut on October 1, 2016, during an episode hosted by Margot Robbie with musical guest The Weeknd. After two seasons, Moffat and his colleagues were promoted to repertory cast members in 2018, starting with the show’s 44th season.
During his tenure on SNL, Moffat became well-known for his versatile sketches and memorable characters, including his portrayal of President-elect Joe Biden in a December 2020 cold open. After six successful years, he left the show at the end of its 47th season in 2022.
In 2023, Moffat made his Broadway debut in The Cottage, further showcasing his range as a performer. He is married to Caroline Rau, and they welcomed their daughter, Everett, in January 2021. Moffat resides in Brooklyn, continuing to build his career in comedy and acting.
