Alyssa Sutherland is an Australian actress best known for playing Queen Aslaug in the multi-award-winning drama series Vikings between 2013 and 2016. The show, which was based on the exploits of Norse Vikings between the 8th and 10th centuries, aired on the History Channel and Amazon Prime and Sutherland appeared in the first four seasons. Since then, she has co-starred in the horror thriller series The Mist and appeared in films such as Evil Dead Rise and Blood Vessel. The latter won her a Best Supporting Actress Award when it premiered at 2019’s FilmQuest Festival in Utah. She is hugely popular on Instagram, having over 320,000 followers.
Sutherland was born in Brisbane in September 1982. She began life in the public eye as a model after winning a competition in a teen magazine in 1997. She was subsequently signed up by Vogue Australia and became a huge success, modelling on runways, on TV, and in print. She worked with the likes of Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Garnier, Chanel, and many more before beginning to shift her sights towards an acting career.
Sutherland made her first film appearance in 2006, appearing in The Devil Wears Prada. She continued to play occasional roles (and also appeared in commercials for Flake chocolate bars) before winning her breakthrough part in Vikings. The show became a long-running hit, winning many awards, including the Satellite Award for Best Television Series. Although Sutherland left the show at the end of its fourth season, she has continued to build her reputation as a fantasy and horror actress of note, as her starring role in the latest instalment of the world-famous Evil Dead franchise proves.
