English actor Aml Ameen shot to fame after his portrayal of Trife in the seminal urban drama Kidulthood, and has now made a name for himself as a talented actor with impressive credits across both film and television.
Born in London, Ameen studied at the Barbara Speake Stage School before taking to the stage in the West End, appearing in productions of Oliver and Jolson. At only eleven years old, he shared the stage with Michael Jackson at the 1996 BRIT Awards. His first acting role came in 2004, in Bella and the Boys, before he was cast in BBC’s hospital drama Holby City. Ameen’s big break came with a central role in the gritty drama Kidulthood, a role that would kickstart a long and successful career in entertainment.
Following his appearance in Kidulthood, Ameen landed a recurring role in ITV’s police procedural The Bill, before playing a leading part in BBC Three’s teen drama Dis/Connected. The actor then featured in the Channel 4 film Fallout and BBC’s Silent Witness. Most recently, Ameen has been seen in the Netflix original sci-fi series Sense8 and Idris Elba’s directorial debut, Yardie. He also played the role of Simon in HBO’s much-hyped comedy-drama I May Destroy You. Ameen is the founder of Actors Student Alliance, a drama school that seeks to discover and coach untapped talent in London, which has now grown into a management company.
