Captivating author and blogger Amy Shira Teitel is passionate about all things space. She is well known for creating the popular blog Vintage Space – a celebration of spaceflight history and science. Teitel also launched her highly successful YouTube page of the same name, which continues to explore the mesmerising world beyond our reach. A graduate of the University of King’s College and Dalhousie University and holding a masters in Science and Technology Studies from York University, Teitel has uncovered mysteries of the universe. From her MA thesis about the little-known Gemini Wing to penning her sensational debut novel, Breaking the Chains of Gravity, Teitel’s passion for space is catching.
Over the years, Teitel has become the go-to expert when it comes to space aviation, early technological evolutions and her endless fascination with mid-century America. She has made numerous television appearances such as NASA’s Unexplained Files and Secret Space Escapes on the Science Channel, Netflix’s Aliens on the Moon and Mysteries at the Museum on The Travel Channel, to name a few. But she is also a captivating host and has produced The Vintage Space, Pluto in a Minute, Martian Moments and DNews/Seeker.
Writing is Teitel’s bread and butter. It has shaped her extraordinary career and has turned her into the star we see today. As well as her three books, Fighting for Space, Apollo Pilot and Breaking the Chains of Gravity, Teitel has contributed to several publications. Some of her work includes the groundbreaking piece, “Small steps: How NASA prepared for the first moonwalk” for BBC Science Focus, and several pieces for Nerdist, Physics Focus and Motherboard. With a range of projects in the works, and her undying passion for space, music and the arts, Teitel’s star will be burning bright for years to come.
