Anderson Cooper formally began his career in broadcast journalism in 1995 when he joined ABC News as a correspondent, later co-anchoring ‘World News Now’ in 1999. Prior to this, Cooper graduated from Yale University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science, then gained initial reporting experience filming in war-torn regions including Myanmar, Somalia, Bosnia, and Rwanda, and interned at the CIA. He made a notable shift to host the reality game show ‘The Mole’ for two seasons starting in 2000. Following the events of September 11, 2001, Cooper returned to news, joining CNN that same year.
Also in 2007, he hosted the critically acclaimed documentary series ‘Planet in Peril’. From 2011 to 2013, Cooper further diversified his portfolio by hosting his own syndicated daytime talk show, ‘Anderson Live.’ In 2016, Cooper achieved a significant milestone by moderating a U.S. presidential debate, becoming the first openly gay individual to do so. Cooper also established himself as a successful author, co-authoring the bestselling book ‘The Rainbow Comes and Goes’ in 2017.
His versatility was showcased again in 2021 when he served as a guest host for the iconic game show ‘Jeopardy!’. In recent years, Cooper has expanded into digital media, launching his highly successful podcast ‘All There Is with Anderson Cooper’ in 2022, dedicated to exploring grief and loss. In 2023, his literary contributions continued with the co-authorship of ‘Astor: The Rise and Fall of an American Fortune,’ building on his collection of historical works. Cooper continues to lead CNN’s ‘Anderson Cooper 360°’ as anchor and contribute award-winning reports to CBS News’ ’60 Minutes,’ maintaining his position as a recognized and respected journalist in broadcast media.
