Winner of a slew of gold medals, Caeleb Dressel OLY is a professional swimmer from the United States. He specializes in the freestyle, butterfly, and individual medley events. As a member of the International Swimming League, he competes in swimming with the Cali Condors. At the 2018 World Swimming Championships in Hangzhou, he won nine medals, six of which were gold. At the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, he won eight medals, including six gold. Dressel is a seven-time Olympic gold medalist who also has world records in the 50-meter freestyle (short course), 100-meter individual medley (short course), and 100-meter butterfly (long course and short course).
Dressel became the fifth American to win five gold medals in a single Olympic Games since 1970 when he won five gold medals at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. The other four were Mark Spitz, Michael Phelps, Eric Heiden, and Matt Biondi. He also made swimming history by becoming the first male swimmer to ever win gold medals in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, and 100-meter butterfly events at the same Olympics, dating back to 1896.
Dressel has U.S. records in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle, as well as the 50 and 100 yard butterfly (all long course meters). In addition, he has American records in the 50 and 100 yard freestyles, the 100 yard butterfly, and the 200 yard individual medley. He also formerly held the 100 yard breaststroke record for the United States. He won NCAA titles in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, and 100-yard butterfly individual events throughout his collegiate career.
