Canadian World Cup alpine skier Cameron Alexander excels in the downhill and super-G speed competitions. At the age of 22, he competed in his first World Cup event at Lake Louise in November 2019, and in a downhill at Kvitfjell in March 2022, he won and finished on the podium for the first time. At the 2023 World Championships in the downhill, Alexander took home the bronze medal. He has placed in the top 15 in the World Cup four times in his career.
The 2020–2021 season got off to a wonderful start for Alexander, who placed 10th in the super-G in Norway. Unfortunately, he was sidelined for the remainder of the season by an injury he sustained in Val-d’Isère in December. After being left off the Olympic team, Alexander returned to the snow in 2021–22 bigger and better than ever before. He displayed incredible fortitude by taking first place in the downhill in Kvitfjell, Norway, despite not making the team. This victory gave Canada its first downhill gold since Erik Guay triumphed on the same slope in 2014.
In 2023, at the Alpine Skiing World Championships in Courchevel, France, Alexander put in a fine performance and earned Team Canada’s second medal. He won bronze in the men’s downhill competition. With a time of 1:47.94, he finished third on the podium, 0.89 seconds after Marco Odermatt of Switzerland.
