Award-winning actress Camilla Luddington was born and raised in England but made it big in the United States when she began playing Dr Jo Wilson in Grey’s Anatomy, a role she has now played for over 10 years. She also had recurring roles in hit series such as Californication and True Blood and also provided the voice and motion capture for the iconic character of Lara Croft in the 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider and the voice for its sequel games, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The latter won her a Gamers’ Choice Award in 2018.
Luddington was born in the affluent English town of Ascot in December 1983. She studied at the Italia Contini performing arts school in Surrey (fellow alumni include Russell Brand and Tracey Ullman) and then studied in Texas for a year. She also studied in Pennsylvania and New York before moving to Los Angeles to make it as an actress.
She had various small roles in the likes of Days of Our Lives and CSI before getting a break by playing Kate Middleton in a TV movie entitled William & Kate, which capitalised on the huge popularity of the young British royals. The following year, the big TV parts started coming, with Grey’s Anatomy being a particularly successful role that she has played ever since. Her work as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider (which took three years to complete) endeared her to generation of gamers. She more recently voiced the character of Zatanna in two Justice League movies.
