Christopher Lee Mack is a distinguished American college basketball coach, currently leading the men’s basketball program at the College of Charleston. His coaching journey began at the high school level, where he made a significant impact as the junior varsity head coach at McAuley High School in Cincinnati. He quickly advanced to head coach of the girls varsity team at Mount Notre Dame High School, earning the Cincinnati Post’s Coach of the Year award in 1996, showcasing his early talent for developing young athletes.
Mack transitioned to college basketball in 1999 as the Director of Basketball Operations at Xavier University, where he honed his skills under the mentorship of Skip Prosser. His dedication and expertise led him to become an assistant coach at Wake Forest in 2001, before returning to Xavier in 2004 as a top assistant under Sean Miller. In 2009, Mack was appointed head coach at Xavier, where he achieved remarkable success, including multiple Atlantic 10 Championships and NCAA Sweet 16 appearances, solidifying his reputation as a top-tier coach.
In 2018, Mack took the helm at the University of Louisville, where he led the team to a #1 national ranking and notable victories, including a significant win against Duke. His tenure was marked by resilience and strategic leadership, even amidst challenges, culminating in a successful exit with a substantial severance package.
After a brief hiatus, Mack returned to coaching at the College of Charleston, signing a five-year contract to revitalize the program. His extensive experience and proven track record of success position him as a formidable leader in college basketball, dedicated to fostering talent and achieving excellence.
