Christian Lee Navarro is known to millions of Netflix watchers across the world for playing Tony Padilla in the hit American series 13 Reasons Why. The show, which deals with the aftermath of a high school student’s suicide, won the Television Academy Honors Award for Television with a Consience and tackled difficult but relevant issues, including domestic violence, homophobia, and sexual assault. Navarro starred in all three seasons of the show and was nominated for Best Actor at the 2017 Imagen Awards for his work on it. His other recurring role to date has been Jorge in the Martin Scorcese-created HBO drama series Vinyl.
Navarro was born in 1991 and made his screen debut when he was 14 years old, appearing in a TV commercial. His first proper acting role came in a 2005 episode of Law & Order, a breeding ground for so many aspiring American actors. In 2007, he made his big-screen debut, and he spent the following years building his resume with roles in the likes of Blue Bloods, The Affair, and Rosewood. In 2017, aged 26, he got his big break playing high school student Tony Padilla in 13 Reasons Why. The show became a massive success with both young and adult audiences and launched Navarro to stardom. Proof of his impact can be seen in his 5 million-strong Instagram follower count. His character is the leading character’s best friend, which offered Navarro ample chance to display his acting capabilities.
Since 13 Reasons Why finished in 2020, Navarro has worked on a range of projects, including the 2021 supernatural horror film The Devil’s Light.
