The mighty sportsman Cyrille Maret is a judoka, who competes in the -100kg and +100kg weight categories. He is a European Games Champion, a 4x IJF Grand Slam Champion, and a 2x IJF Grand Prix Champion, as well as a 3x World Championships Silver-medalist, a 3x European Championships Silver-medalist, a World Masters Silver-medalist, and an Olympic medalist.
Born and raised in Dijon, France, Maret started judo at a young age, and went on to compete at cadet and junior level. When he was 16-years-old he became the European Cadet Championships Champion after winning Gold in the +90kg weight category. He moved up to the -100kg weight class and in 2005 took Bronze at the World Juniors Championships. In 2006 he took Gold at the World Juniors Championships, and in 2007 was part of the Men’s team who won Silver at the European Championships. After winning Gold at the 2009 Summer Universiade, he went on to add an impressive number of medals to his collection, including four from the IJF Grand Prix (including two Golds); twelve IJF Grand Slam medals (including three Golds); a Silver and a Bronze from the World Masters; five more European Championships medals; four European Games medals (including a Men’s team Gold); and four World Championships Mixed team medals.
In 2016 Maret was selected as part of the French national team to attend the Olympic Games in Rio, and he went on to win the Bronze medal. He also started competing in the +100kg weight category, and has added two more IJF Grand Slam medals to his collection, taking Gold in 2017 and Silver in 2021.
