About

David William Donald Cameron, born on October 9, 1966, in London, England, is a descendant of King William IV and grew up in a family with both wealth and an aristocratic background. He attended Eton College and later Brasenose College, Oxford, where he graduated in 1988 with a first-class degree in philosophy, politics, and economics. Following his university education, Cameron joined the Conservative Party Research Department. His early career in politics included serving as a special adviser to Norman Lamont, then Chancellor of the Exchequer, in 1992, and the subsequent year to Michael Howard, who was Home Secretary at the time. In 1994, Cameron moved into the media sector, joining Carlton Communications as director of corporate affairs, a role he held until his election to Parliament. He entered Parliament in 2001, representing Witney, northwest of London.

Upon entering Parliament, Cameron quickly gained recognition for his moderate stance and charismatic approach. He was appointed to his party’s “front bench” after merely two years as an MP, becoming a prominent Conservative spokesman in the House of Commons. In 2004, Michael Howard, then party leader, assigned Cameron to head policy coordination, tasking him with preparing the Conservative’s 2005 election manifesto. Following the party’s defeat in the 2005 elections and Howard’s resignation, Cameron’s speech at the party’s annual conference in October 2005 enhanced his public profile, leading to his election as Conservative leader. Under his leadership, the party aimed to modernize its image and broaden its appeal, prioritizing economic stability and robust public services. This strategic shift contributed to an increase in the party’s popularity, culminating in their best performance in local elections in 15 years during 2006. He became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 2010 at the head of a Conservative–Liberal Democratic coalition government, the first such coalition since World War II.
