Dean John-Wilson is a British actor who rose to fame as a semi-finalist on Britain’s Got Talent before becoming a West End theatre star. John-Wilson played the title role in the original production of Disney’s Aladdin at the Prince Edward Theatre in London’s West End, and has also starred as Lun Tha in the West End revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical The King and I.
Born in Middlesborough, John-Wilson seemed destined to become a star of musical theatre, and began to study jazz, gymnastics and tap before studying for a BTEC in performing arts and attending London’s Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. He got his big break on Britain’s Got Talent in 2008, impressing judges with his strong vocals and winning an army of new fans in the process. His appearance on the show helped raise the actor’s profile and helped John-Wilson land his starring role in Disney’s Aladdin musical.
Immediately after his successful run with Aladdin ended, John-Wilson starred opposite comedian and actress Catherine Tate in Miss Atomic at St. James Theatre. He has also starred in Here Lies Love at the National Theatre, in From Here to Eternity at the Shaftesbury Theatre in the West End and has toured the UK with Sister Act. John-Wilson has now established himself as one of the West End’s hottest young properties, and has also branched out into television acting roles playing Mark Casey in the BBC Soap Doctors in 2020.
