Denise Crosby

Denise Michelle Crosby was born on November 24, 1957, in Hollywood, California. She is the granddaughter of Bing Crosby and the daughter of Dennis Crosby. She graduated from Hollywood High School in 1975 and later attended Cabrillo College, studying in the Drama Department. Crosby began her career with a photo spread in Playboy magazine in 1979 and a role in the soap opera “Days of Our Lives” in 1980. Early film appearances included minor roles in “48 Hrs.” (1982), “Trail of the Pink Panther” (1982), and “Curse of the Pink Panther” (1983). Throughout the mid-1980s, she continued to appear in various films and made-for-TV movies, such as “Malice in Wonderland” (1985), where she portrayed Carole Lombard, and “Desert Hearts” (1985).

Crosby achieved widespread recognition in 1987 with her role as Lieutenant Tasha Yar in “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Initially cast to play Counselor Deanna Troi, her role was switched with Marina Sirtis before filming began. Although she left the series in 1988 due to her character’s diminishing screen time, she returned as a guest star in the early 1990s, notably as Tasha Yar in the critically acclaimed episode “Yesterday’s Enterprise” (1990), and later as Yar’s half-Romulan daughter, Commander Sela, in episodes such as “Redemption” and “Unification.” Post-Star Trek, she continued to work consistently, appearing in films like Stephen King’s “Pet Sematary” (1989) and “Dolly Dearest” (1991), and had a role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown” (1997) as a public defender. She also had a sizable part in the disaster movie “Deep Impact” (1998) as a pregnant mother.

Crosby further cultivated her connection with the Star Trek fanbase by producing and presenting the documentaries “Trekkies” (1997) and “Trekkies 2” (2004), which explored the culture of Star Trek enthusiasts. Since 2000, her career has included guest roles on television series such as “The X-Files” (2001), “JAG” (2002), “Dexter” (2006), “Ray Donovan” (2013-2017), “The Walking Dead” (2014), “Suits” (2019), and “General Hospital” (2022-2023). She has also lent her voice to video games, including “Star Trek: Armada” (2000) and “Star Trek Online” (2013). Crosby maintains an active presence, participating in fan conventions and continuing her work in film and television.
