Devon Spinnler Townsend is the co-creator and CTO of the celebrity video messaging app Cameo. He can also be recognised for being one of the original creators on Vine, a 6-second video app that thrust him into infamy. He has completed what others have tried and failed to do – turn a hobby into a career.
In 2014 Townsend quit his gig as a Microsoft engineer to travel the world with his friend the Youtube star Cody Ko. While globetrotting, they launched a travel and comedy account documenting their comings and goings on the now-discontinued app, Vine. The account eventually reached 3 million followers and amassed tens of millions of views. A flood of requests for personalised videos convinced Spinnler there was a market for influencer and fan connectivity. The app has been dubbed ‘the most American start-up ever’ showing Spinnlers ability to think outside the box. His attitude and perception is an incredibly admirable trait and the internet sensation has gained an incredible amount of knowledge and has it all to share with the rest of the world.
Spinnler has the innate ability to grow an online community and nourish its needs. His ability to turn his content creation passion into a business for himself hasn’t gone unnoticed and he has been listed in the 2020 Forbes 30 under 30 in consumer technology.
