Olympic hopeful Divyansh Singh Panwar is a sport shooter from India who climbed to world No.1 in air rifle in 2019 after a string of impressive results. Panwar clinched the silver medal at the 2019 ISSF World Cup in Beijing in the 10 metre air rifle event, and earned India’s fourth quota spot for the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games in 2021. He later bagged a gold medal in the men’s category at the ISSF World Cup Finals after a final round score of 250.1. 2020 started off just as successfully for the talented shooter when he won gold in Munich at the H&N Cup scoring 252.8, and if his current form continues Panwar will be the one to beat in Tokyo.
Born in Jaipur, India, Panwar started shooting in 2014 when he was twelve years old at the Jangpura shooting range. His father then enrolled Panwar at New Delhi’s Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range and he trained under Coach Deepak Kumar Dubey. The young prodigy soon began to win junior titles, including two gold medals in ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl. Panwar and Elavenil Valarivan broke the world junior record in the junior mixed team event to take gold, and he also clinched gold in the junior men’s team 10 metre air rifle event.
2019 saw Panwar climb the world rankings as a senior after winning silver at the 2019 ISSF World Cup in Beijing and later bagging gold in the 2019 World Cup Final in Putian. Panwar is now focussed on training for Tokyo and fulfilling his Olympic dream in 2021.
