The amazing sportsman Fabio Basile is a judoka, who has competed in the -66kg and-73kg weight classes. He is an Olympic Champion, an IJF Grand Slam Champion, and an IJF Grand Prix Champion. He is also an U23 European Champion. His autobiography, Fabio Basile: L’Impossibile Non Esiste, was published in 2023.
Born and raised in Italy, Basile started judo at a young age, and began competing in junior and cadet championships. In 2010, at the age of 16, he won Silver at the European Cadet Championships in the -55kg weight class, as well as Bronze at the World Juniors Championships. He moved up to the -60kg weight class and in 2012 he took Bronze at the European U23 Championships, as well as at the European Junior Championships in 2014. In 2015 he moved up to the -66kg weight class, and took Gold at the European U23 Championships. The following year he took Silver at the IJF Grand Prix, Bronze at the European Championships, and best of all Gold at the Rio 2016 Olympics, of which his win also made history marking his native Italy’s 200th Olympic Gold medal. Since moving up to the -73 weight class in 2018, he has taken Gold and his second Silver at the IJF Grand Prix, as well as four IJF Grand Slam medals, including Gold in 2021.
